How much paint you need: the 4-step math
A 12 × 14 room takes about 2 gallons of paint.
The math: perimeter × wall height (52 ft × 8 ft = 416 sq ft), minus about 21 sq ft per door and 15 per window (365 sq ft), times 2 coats (730 sq ft), divided by coverage. One gallon covers roughly 350–400 sq ft per coat, so that's 1.8–2.1 gallons: buy 2 gallons, plus a quart if your paint covers 350. Textured walls and bare drywall drink more, so prime those first.
